Mary Russell was born in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, to Irish parents, grew up in Fouss Mills, Pennsylvania. Her parents built their home on the banks of the Juniata River, and was only accessible by passing through a cover bridge built in 1874, and spanned the river. She enjoyed walking to the school bus stop everyday in the warm months but when winter blew in it was cold as she waited for the bus to pick her up for school.
Mary Russell spent five years researching her novel “Secret Keepers and Skinny Shadows.” Her unique research methods allowed her to uncover information that might have ordinarily escaped scrutiny. A member of the organization Crested Butte Writers, of Crested Butte, Colorado, Russell has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Akron in Ohio.
